Tracking and viewing your assets in real-time
Keep track of your assets whether they are stationary or mobile
Assets need to be tracked for many reasons: accounting purposes, location, supply chain and ERP scheduling, and more. The ability to view your asset’s status in real-time can greatly improve an organization’s control over its assets…and its bottom line.
Connect One’s Internet connectivity chips and modules enable you to receive updates from your remote assets in a number of ways: as a Web page viewable from any browser, as an email status report, or as an FTP download of activity logs, for example. Remote management has never been more convenient!
Some typical applications include:
- Warehouse management
- Material control
- Vehicle tracking and management
Eliot SA of Grenoble, France developed a fleet management platform. In addition to standard functions such as monitoring of vehicle location, speed, engine revolutions-per-minute (RPM), mileage, identification of the trailer, and monitoring of the inside temperature of refrigerated trailers, it can set alarms if the driver stops for too long, and schedule rendezvous points and times along the way, and provide real-time delivery updates, reports, confirmation, and route scheduling.
The system also provides connectivity for shipment tracing tools, such as bar-code readers, for continuously tracking goods from the warehouse to the shop and avoiding mistakes in loading/unloading operations. With a mandatory onboard tachograph to measure and collect vehicle operating information, the French police can monitor all driver activity and ensure compliance with the law.
Eliot’s development department wanted to use several methods of IP connectivity over GSM and GPRS — TCP sockets, binary email attachments, HTTP pages and FTP — for data transmission. The system would have to work with various wireless operators, each using a different GPRS system.
Eliot selected iChip for its wireless application because iChip supports:
- All the above protocols
- Cellular routing
- WiFi Roaming
- Dynamic DNS support
- An internal Web site for configuring the iChip
“GPRS provides a basic IP connection, but that was not enough for us. Connect One’s iChip responded to our need for the complete Internet protocol stack. Plus, Connect One took into account our special performance requests. They delivered a product that did exactly what we needed for our telematics application. The proof is in the pudding.”
