iChipNet Device Connectivity Server (DCS)
The iChipNet cloud solution is based on Connect One’s Device Connectivity Server (DCS).
Connect One’s DCS is a combination Web server, registration server, and proxy server that enables OEMs, system integrators and device operators to overcome the drawbacks of accessing IoT devices located on networks behind NATs (Network Address Translators) and firewalls. It provides all the access needed to operate, manage and maintain an IoT device, without compromising network security.
The DCS provides the following functions:
- Contains a database of IoT devices connected to it
- Provides access to a remote IoT device even if it’s behind a NAT or firewall
- Enables a standard Web browser or smartphone app to display current status and control all your devices
- Provides an open API allowing access to its device database to other servers or applications
The DCS allows devices with dynamic IPv4 IP addresses to act as servers, regardless of the IP address they are assigned. It also provides a simple Application Programming Interface (API) for a remote application so that it can connect to devices in the field.
The DCS solution is based on two components: an agent running on the WiFi module (device side) and the DCS server application running on a dedicated, networked PC. The PC also hosts a database system and a Web server.

The Device Connectivity Server’s Web site is the front-end interface for managing all remote IoT devices. Information may be obtained from the DCS by surfing to the DCS’s Web site with a standard browser or by querying the DCS over a TCP/IP socket using the DCS’s open API. Typical displayed status information includes : links to the remote IoT device, online or offline state, elapsed time, host name (symbolic name), and date/time of last connection or last disconnection.
A DCS service is operated by Connect One for managing IoT devices, or a customer can choose to self-host the DCS server by purchasing a license.

Testing the operation of the DCS is through the use of the IoT-ready EVMB, an evaluation board that automatically registers with the DCS.
