Why Connect One?

In planning how you will Internet-enable your embedded device, what is most important to you?

  • Total certainty that the IP connectivity will simply work - wherever your device is deployed, throughout its full product lifetime?
  • A rapid, smooth design process?
  • The flexibility to use any Internet protocol?
  • Ensuring the security of your device or network
  • Offloading IP connectivity tasks from the host processor?

Because of Connect One's proven, industry-leading expertise in M2M (machine-to-machine) connectivity over IP networks, our embedded Internet connectivity chips and External Device Servers offer several outstanding benefits for companies that need to build IP connectivity into new devices or to Internet-enable existing devices.

With Connect One's solutions, you get:

  • Fastest time-to-market
  • A robust, proven solution that eliminates the risk or unpredictable costs of a development project using canned TCP/IP stacks
  • Comprehensive support from concept through the entire lifetime of the deployed device
  • Easy and efficient maintenance and updatability of your product
  • A wide choice of features and capabilities, ensuring a solution that is tailored for your requirements

The Connect One Advantage

  • Drop-in solutions reduce time-to-market
Connect One's fully integrated hardware and software solutions eliminate the need to re-engineer products in order to support communications over the Internet. What's more, because you don't need to engage in a major hardware redesign, change your operating system, or develop and debug your own in-house software solutions, our solutions reduce the time-to-market to Internet-enable your devices. Using Connect One embedded TCP/IP microprocessors, design-in typically takes less than one month. Our external device servers can be integrated into your system within a matter of hours.

  • Proven, worldwide reliability
Why reinvent the wheel? The integration-ready features of Connect One's embedded TCP/IP microprocessors and the plug-and-play capabilities of our External Device Servers save you the cost and risk of developing Internet technology that is not your core expertise. Embedded TCP/IP chips from Connect One have been providing robust M2M connectivity since 1999 and are deployed in more than 50 countries around the world. Across thousands of ISPs, wireless carriers and telephone networks, our embedded microprocessors, embedded and external device servers are delivering non-stop, seamless IP connectivity.

  • Updateable firmware
All Connect One products are programmable and feature updateable firmware. Because the Internet is a dynamic medium, your devices must be capable of supporting new protocols or implementations thereof. Most of our products enable remote updates of our firmware over the Internet, thus extending product life and lowering the cost of product maintenance. Our embedded device servers (chips) can also be used to remotely update the firmware of host device processors.

  • Use of low-cost host processors and less memory
Our Internet connectivity chips, embedded device servers, and external device servers are designed to work with any host processor and any or no host operating system. By reducing host processor load, Connect One solutions eliminate the need to use expensive, higher power processors that provide more processing power than you really need for your application. Instead, with Connect One's innovative firmware, you can use low-cost processors. You can also save on memory costs as imost Chips include built-in SRAM and flash memory that offload Internet-related tasks from your main memory.

  • Application-specific solutions
Connect One offers embedded TCP/IP chip,  embedded and external device server solutions with the specific physical interface and Internet protocol needed for your application. A broad range of possibilities is available, including support for textual and binary emails, HTTP, WAP, SSL3.0/TLS1.0, Telnet and FTP, and physical interfaces such as dial-up and cellular modems, 10/100BaseT Ethernet local area networks, and 802.11b wireless LANs.

  • PHY-independence
Connect One's design concept gives you maximum flexibility in selecting the communication medium (PHY) of your choice. Our Internet connectivity chips work independently of the physical medium, working with:
    • Any dial-up or cellular serial modem that supports the industry-standard Hayes AT command set
    • Most popular 2.5G and 3G cellular networks
    • Most popular 10BaseT and 10/100BaseT Ethernet controllers for embedded applications
    • Most popular 802.11b/g WiFi chipsets

  • Built-in security
Device, network and information security is a primary concern in many industries. Secure SMTP authentication and MD5 password encryption for the embedded Web server are standard features in iChip Internet Controllers. Some Connect One embedded device servers feature secure sockets via SSL3/TLS1.0 and secure FTP, eliminating the cost, complexity and time of adding network security capabilities to your application. Support for SMTPS and HTTPS is currently in development.

  • Standards-based protocols
Unlike some companies in this field, Connect One's products support the complete Internet protocol stack and do not use proprietary protocols. That means you are assured of complete standards-based interoperability. We take no shortcuts, ensuring that our chips will operate anywhere in the world, in any network.

  • Extensive range of applications
Connect One's embedded microprocessors and device server solutions are deployed globally in a broad range of products, including: Point of Sale (POS) terminals, medical devices, fleet management terminals, industrial controllers, vending, gaming, and automatic teller machines, utility meters, remote security, building automation, and data collection systems.

  • The device is the gateway
Connect One's technology turns any device into an Internet gateway, eliminating the need for a gateway PC on a network. Whether you have a single device or one million devices that need M2M connectivity via the Internet or other IP-based network, Connect One offers the most cost-effective solution for your application.
