PPP compatibility mode allows solutions already using the PPP protocol to enjoy immediate LAN or WiFi connectivity without development of any drivers or protocols. The existing TCP/IP stack is used, and the relevant Connect One product is used as a closed solution (including drivers, etc) to connect to the IP network.
Typical applications:
- WiFi enabling devices currently using Dial Up modem connectivity
The following diagram illustrates the PPP compatibility mode:

In PPP compatibility mode, the iChip supports an additional API layer, above the PPP protocol. In this mode it is assumed that a basic PPP stack exists in the Host processor and that it is capable of negotiating a PPP connection. Once a PPP connection is established between the host and the iChip the Host processor may send PPP packets to iChip with destination being the iChip itself or remote IP addresses, in which case the iChip will route those packets through its Modem or LAN/WiFi interface.
While in PPP compatibility mode, the iChip also operates Internet Controller mode (AT+i commands are received over a TCP socket).
This mode is supported on the following Connect One products:
- iChip CO2128 / CO2144
- All embedded modules
- Secure iWiFi & Secure iLAN
This mode may be used over the following iChip interfaces:
